HI THERE!

Come Explore

Thanks for visiting! Here you will find many resources to explore the concepts we learn together in 7th-grade math. Click the V in each box or read the description to find a link to the resource. The resources are organized by unit. Our first unit is integer arithmetic, our second unit is simplifying algebraic expressions, and the third is solving equations. Click here for a full list of all of these resources and more.

Resources: Welcome

Integers

In 7th grade, students begin to think about the abstract idea of negative numbers. The abstract nature of this topic warrant some students to believe they have not encountered negative numbers. They are shows that negative numbers are used in many real world situations. Click here and here.

Algebraic Expressions

In 7th grade students are learning pre-algebra. They are for the first time seeing and being exposed to polynomials. Students can use this video to learn about what it means to be a polynomial.

Equations

An equation is like a balancing sclae. What you do to one side of the equation you must do to the other side of the equation to keep the equation balanced. Watch this video to understand this principle.

Zero Pairs

In this video you will see how zero pairs can be used to add integers, which are positive and negative whole numbers. This is a foundational topic that students must understand before continuing on to adding and substracting positive and negative numbers. Click here.

Combining Like Terms

When students first begin simplifying algebraic expressions, they learn how to combine like terms. Here is an introductory video to intuitively understand combining like terms. Click here.

One-Step Equations

Here is a continuation video of solving one-step equations. Click here.

Adding Integers

In this video a the PBS Math Club explains how to add negative integers, and all other rules around adding and subtracting integers. Click here.

Distributive Property

The distributive property is a fundamental topic in 7th-grade math. It is imperative that students learn how to use the distributive property to write equivalent expressions. Here is a video that students can use to gain a deeper understanding of the distributive property. Click here.

Two-Step Equations

Things get more complicated when there are two operations in the equation, you need two steps to solve the equation. Here is a video you can use to see how to solve a two-step equation.

Subtracting Integers

Subtracting Integers can be tricky but once you know how to add positive and you understand that subtracting and the number is the same as adding it's opposite then it becomes easy. Click here. Here is another video that offers a trick for adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.

Factoring Polynomials

Factoring polynomials means applying the distributive property in reverse. Click here to understand factoring of polynomials.

Two-step equations.

Here is another resource to see two-step equations and how they can be modeled with balanced scales. Click here.

Multiplying and Dividing Integers

Here is a video that can be used to explore how positive and negative numbers are multiplied and divided. Click here.
